In the small town of Friedensdorf most of the homes and shops are brightly decorated. One shop, however, has no Christmas decorations on the outside - and no Christmas spirit on the inside! In that shop, Hans the shoemaker works into the night, purposely shut away from the holiday festivities around him. Alone in his shop, with no family and few friends, Hans has never learned the true meaning of Christmas! Then, he is visited by an angel who tells him that he will receive the greatest gift of all this Christmas - a gift from God!

As the story unfolds, Hans learns the joys of sharing and friendship, and finally is able to give someone else a gift when he realizes that God has indeed given him a Gift!

Superbook is an anime television series originally produced by CBN to reach Japanese children with the message of the Gospel.  The series chronicled events of the Bible's Old and New Testaments in 52 episodes.  The first 26 episodes aired in late 1981 and early 1982, and the second series in 1983.  It was the first Christian-themed animated series to be syndicated to TV stations since Davey and Goliath in the 1960s.The series has been broadcast on TV and made available on DVD in many countries around the world.  

The first series (episodes 1-26) features mostly stories from the Old Testament, though a few deal with the life and ministry of Jesus Christ and the final episode concerns the conversion of Paul of Tarsus.  The story revolves around a young boy named Chris, his friend, Joy, and a robot who discover a magical Bible “Superbook” that speaks and sends them back in time to the time of the Old or New Testament.  The children learn about important life lessons on these journeys back in time.

The episodes of Season 2 (epidsodes 27-52) focus solely on Old Testament stories.  Chris and Joy (from Season 1) are able to see into the past from a computer monitor, and they watch as the robot and Chris' cousin search for Chris' dog who has gotten lost in time.  Interaction between modern day characters in season 2 is minimal with each episode mostly a straightforward adaptation of the Bible story, occurring while the robot and Chris' cousin search for the dog.
