(John Calvin)

如果您希望更加认识加尔文,请读阿利斯特·麦格拉思的《加尔文传》(A Life of John Calvin)和茜亚·凡赫尔斯玛的《加尔文传》(This was John Calvin)。

  1. The Emergence of Liberty in the Modern World: The Influence of Calvin on Five Governments from the 16th Through 18th Centuries
    CN¥29.80

Douglas F. Kelly examines five church-state relations (Geneva, Huguenot France, Knox's Scotland, Puritan England, and Colonial America) over a three-century period to show the impact of Calvin’s thought on civil government. Though primarily a scholar, theologian, preacher, and church statesman, Calvin showed a strong political concern throughout his life. His theology, the institutions it engendered, and the questions it raised have played a major role in shaping the post-Reformation world. Calvin’s legacy continues to bear upon the issues that guide and agitate Western nations today. Dr. Kelly is the Jordan Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theology Seminary, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He received his B.D. From Union Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. From the University of Edinburgh. Learn More
  2. Reformation Thought (reprint)
    CN¥45.00

Reformation Thought is an acclaimed and popular introductory guide for theology and history students seeking to understand the central ideas of the European reformations. Based on McGrath's considerable experience of teaching Reformation studies, this text requires no prior knowledge of Christian theology. The Reformation is first placed within the socio-religious- intellectual context of the Late Middle Ages and Humanism, and then developed through its key doctrines. The author discusses the reformed doctrines of justification by faith, predestination, the sacraments and the church. Special attention is paid to Luther's, Calvin's and Zwingli's own respective thoughts on each doctrine. The books closes with a lucid analysis of the impact of the Reformation upon History, with a special focus on the Protestant work ethic and the origins of capitalism.

  4. This Was John Calvin (Reprint)
    CN¥36.80

In this biography by Thea Van Halsema, John Calvin comes alive as the author brings imagination as well as research to bear upon her subject. Her portrayal of the Genevan reformer is both appealing and honest.  From this account, Calvin no longer is seen merely as "carved like a monument in the panorama of human history," but has become vivid, lifelike, and real.  The author provides background infromation on the world of Calvin's day, as well as details of Calvin's life--both his strengths and his fraities.

Calvin's “little book” — as he affectionately called it — grew in size throughout the rest of his life; eventually, this early, shorter version evolved into what is now known as the Institutes, the 1559 edition, which Calvin considered the authoritative form of his thought for posterity.
